In May, 2012, Dr. Carlos A. Coello Coello travelled to Lappeenranta,
Finland, to act as the opponent of Dr. Saku Kukkonen. This was a very
exciting trip to Dr. Coello, since this was his first time in Finland.
The defense was also something new to him, since the protocol was
very formal (note the outfit in some of the pictures). There was also
a formal dinner in the evening, after the defense in which formal
dressing was required, as shown in the pictures.
During this trip, Dr. Coello had the opportunity to meet personally
to Prof. Jouni Lampinen (Kukkonen's PhD advisor). Also, and in order
to exploit this trip as much as possible, he accepted a kind invitation
from Prof. Kaisa Miettinen to visit the University of Jyväskylä,
where he gave a talk on evolutionary multiobjective optimization.
This was a long trip, but it was certainly worth it, since Finland is
a beautiful country that is certainly worth visiting. This can be
corroborated with the pictures shown below.
