EVIC'2008 (Santiago, Chile), December 2008

In December, 2008, Dr. Carlos A. Coello Coello traveled to Santiago, Chile, to act as plenary speaker at the Fifth IEEE Latinoamerican Summer School on Computational Intelligence, which took place at the University of Chile.

Dr. Coello had a great time in Chile. During his visit, he was taken to the winery Concha y Toro where he was explained the wine making process and was allowed to taste a couple of excellent wines. He was also shown one of the wine cellars and the original place where the famous Casillero del Diablo wine was stored (since the bottles were frequently stolen, the owner spread rumors about the presence of the devil in this cellar and therefore the name of the wine). Pictures of this visit are shown below.

Below you can see pictures of some of the places to which Dr. Coello was taken (including some great restaurants), of some of the other plenary speakers with which he had some interesting conversations (mainly Drs. Russell Eberhart, Michael Verleysen and Alfredo Weitzenfeld), from his nice hotel room and from the city of Santiago. Overall, he had a very pleasant visit and was very thankful to Dr. Pablo Estévez, who was a wonderful host.
