January, 2008, Dr. Carlos A. Coello Coello had the opportunity to travel to India for the first time in his life.
He flew to New Delhi, and then to Kolkata, where he attended the
International Conference on Neural Network and Genetic Algorithm in Materials Science and Engineering (NGMS 2008).
Dr. Coello delivered a tutorial at the Bangal Engineering and Science University, at Shibpur
(some pictures of the campus can be seen below),
and an invited talk at the Taj Bengal Hotel, in Kolkata (there are some
pictures of this very nice hotel below, too).
Dr. Coello had a wonderful time in India. People were very nice to him,
the hotel and the food were outstanding, and he even had a personal car
(with a driver included) assigned to him during the week that he spent
in Kolkata.
Below, you can see some pictures of the city of Kolkata, including the
zoo, Victoria Memorial, the Planetarium, St. Paul's Cathedral, among
others. A picture of the car assigned to Dr. Coello (you can see his
name on it) is also included.
There is also a picture of Dr. Coello with Prof. H.K.D.H. Bhadheshia
(from Cambridge University) and Prof. Mahdi Mahfouf (from the
University of Sheffield), who were two of the other foreign researchers
invited to act as both tutorial and keynote speakers at the conference.
