one-year full-time researcher position

The Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav after its name in Spanish), which is one of the top public research centers in Mexico, has a one-year full-time researcher position in Computer Science that needs to be filled immediately for the Computer Science Department of CINVESTAV located at Mexico City.

Full-time researchers will develop scientific research projects in Computer Science and related areas. They will participate in preparing graduate students, both at MSc and PhD level. Candidates are required to hold a PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, applied Mathematics, or a related field and they must have an outstanding research record. Candidates from all the computer science areas are welcome to apply.

Both junior and senior researchers are encouraged to apply for a position. The type of appointment in turn could be as an Assistant or as a Full Professor. Research experience is emphasized over teaching experience. Nevertheless, the candidate will participate in a graduate program (MSc and PhD) and it is expected to have a light teaching load (one or two graduate-level classes per term), so that he/she may concentrate mostly on research activities. Cinvestav and the Mexican Council of Science and Technology grant scholarship stipends for all of our graduate students. Furthermore, at Cinvestav the education is free of charge, meaning that our enrolled students do not have to pay any tuition fee.

Cinvestav offers a salary, which is highly competitive within the Mexican context. It starts from about $30,000 USD a year, plus some benefits and it varies depending on the candidate's curriculum vitae.

2. A detailed curriculum vitae that clearly indicates the publications in international journals (highlighting the papers in journals included in the Journal Citation Reports), and a list of MSc and PhD graduates (if any).

3. A copy of the 3 papers that he/she considers as the most representative of his/her research.

4. A research statement that briefly (no more than one page) describes the sort of research that the candidate has done so far and his/her research plan in case of being hired.

5. A teaching statement that briefly (no more than one page) describes the sort of graduate-level courses in IT-related courses that the candidate can teach (and has taught in the past, in case of having teaching experience).

6. The names and contact information (postal address, phone and fax number, and email) of three references.

Candidates do not need to be fluent in Spanish (they can teach in English). The screening of candidates has already started and the positions would be filled during September 2016.
