Short Description

 

The Computer Science Department of CINVESTAV-IPN offers both a Masters and a PhD program. The department admits about 20 students in its Masters program each year, and has approximately a total population of 60 graduate students each year (including both Masters and PhD students). There are no tuition fees for Mexican students. Foreign students need to pay a yearly tuition fee of about $2,000 US dollars, and must have the appropriate immigration status in order to register in any of our programs (i.e., they require an FM-3 immigration permit).

 

The Computer Science Department currently has a faculty consisting of 16 full-time researchers (all of them with a PhD in Computer Science or related areas). The main research interests of our faculty are the following:

     

  • Theoretical Foundations of Computing and Artificial Intelligence
  • Databases, Software Engineering and Information Systems
  • Digital Systems and Computer Architecture
  • Systems Programming and Distributed Computing
  • Computer Graphics, Visualization and Systems Multimedia

 

The Computer Science Department has several laboratories with heterogeneous systems that allow researchers and students to develop their course projects and theses. The main platforms used in our laboratories are: Apple McIntosh computers, PCs with Linux and Windows.
