On 19 July 2023, Dr. Carlos A. Coello Coello received the ACM Special Interest Group on Evolutionary Algorithms (SIGEVO) Outstanding Contribution Award from the hands of Dr. Franz Rothlauf, who was the Chair of the SIGEVO Executive Committee.

This event took place in Lisbon, Portugal, in the last day of the 2023 Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO'2023). Something interesting is that during the ceremony, they called the recipients of this award form previous years who were in the audience to come to the front. Previous recipients include: Marc Schoenauer, Darrell Whitley, Kenneth de Jong, Una May O’Reilly, Erik Goodman and Wolfgang Banzhanf.

In the same ceremony, Dr. Emma Hart, who was the Editor-in-Chief of the Evolutionary Computation journal also received this award.
